Spanner/NYC is a magazine of art. Richard Miller wanted to share with colleagues in England the interesting work being done by younger unknown artists that was being done in downtown NYC in late 70s. Work was specifically designed for the publication. -Publisher

Spanner was a Collaborative Projects-sponsored publication that served as the group’s answer to unchecked sociopolitical inequity and rising conservatism in the 1970’s and 80’s. A variety of black-and white works touch upon local and global topics. A four-page spread from Cindy Sherman features several of her Untitled Film Stills. A brief text from Jenny Holzer and Peter Nadin proposes direct action as a means of social betterment. Photographs from Anne Messner document her performances Wheelchair and Hitchhiking. Other contributors include Colab regulars Walter Robinson, Jane Sherry, Christof Kohlhoefer, and more.
