Revolving | Reviews on the works The Days Before The Silent Spring and A Messenger - Passerby in Our Battlefields Lo Lai Lai Natalie 2021-2023
The title of this little book, Revolving, comes from the smoke that is often found in our farmland in Hong Kong Farmers burn the leftover bones in their pots, hammering the blackened pieces; sometimes we burn the waste wood and bamboo sticks, letting the ashes cool down and use them as organic fertilizer.
The smoke is scattered by the wind, and a little outline is vaguely visible, yet it is not clear in the lingering mist.
Just as I feel when I (Lo Lai Lai Natalie) reviewed my two video pieces, “The “Days Before The Silent Spring (2020) and “A Messenger - Passerby in Our Battlefields” (2023), I feel that everything is a “smokescreen”.
I believe that whether it is social movement, farming, or diaspora, it is only a starting point.
Ultimately, we need to practice authenticity.
