Acts of Departure is a textual diversion from initial inquiries set about by The Last Emporium, a project initiated by the engaged disappearance of eight vessels and a series of letters carried out of Hong Kong over the summer and autumn of 2022. Framed by the notion of the address, the epistolary becomes a way to trace various forms of movement—from persons to publics, from the affective to the economic, and from the habitual to now ravaged, geopolitical states of exception. The collection of correspondences, essays, and narratives included each make their own paths of departure, but always with attachments to underscore pathways yet to come. We hope this letter finds you well.
