The National Rose Garden is a conceptual artwork by Kenneth Pietrobono, which uses the national flower to identify the complex and contradictory elements of the American landscape. This set of 12 notecards features 4 designs; Terror, USA Patriot Act, (Skilled) Migrant and Protected Class. Each set includes 3 of each design and 12 envelopes.
Candace Hill presents a series of photographs taken from the Associated Press as well as images from her own life, overlaid with poetic typewritten texts examining racial issues in the USA.
Warren Neidlich’s black-and-white photographs are arranged in four parts. In the first, he restages and photographs some of American history’s most important but unphotographed events, including the relocation of Japanese-Americans to internment camps and the granting of the right to vote to freed slaves.
On the brighter side of Americana, Michalis Pichler presents a silkscreened wooden sculpture of a generic pizza box. This artist’s multiple comes complete with a list of possible toppings printed on one side of the box and “God Bless America!” printed on another.
Meanwhile Garry Neill Kennedy collects a series of capsule biographies of the animals who have blessed the White House and the nation with their companionship and ebullient patriotism.
