Drippy Bone Books is a self-described “3-headed hydra” of a publishing project, operated collaboratively by Kristy Foom (Amsterdam), Mario Zoots (Denver) and Keenan M. Keller (Los Angeles). A small note beneath the Drippy Bone logo on the cover of Keller’s comic GALACTIC BREAKDOWN, reading “Support Weird Create Havoc or Fuck Off,” sums it up pretty well: with a focus on underground art and comic zines, Drippy Bone Books tend towards the absurd, the bizarre, and the graphic, giving artists a platform for the weirdest havoc they can come up with.

GALACTIC BREAKDOWN is dedicated to Tammy Faye, a telling detail. Keegan M. Keller’s comics are printed in colors as vibrant and excessive as the famed televangelist’s makeup, replete with oozing gore, bulging muscles and bubble letters whose unapologetic brashness is almost endearing.

Derek M. Ballard’s approach to comics in CARTOONSHOW books 1 & 2 is visually subtler than Keller’s work, but certainly no less strange. Ballard’s drawing style is rhythmic and graceful, his compositions and color schemes nuanced and controlled in a way that makes the perverse weirdness of the stories he illustrates all the more striking.

The pages of Austin English’s THE LIFE PROBLEM vibrate with the textures of scribbled crayon, pencil and ink. Patterned, amorphous shapes congeal into expressive characters as the accompanying text, in English’s distinctively eloquent voice, give shape to his drawings’ abstracted activity.
