This book recreates the last meals of 23 individuals who were tried, convicted, and executed in Texas for capital murder. Each two page spread presents a mug shot of the executed person and some basic statistical information: name, date executed, education, occupation, and the contents of their last statement. On the facing page is a color photograph of the last meal cooked according to the specifications of the inmate and photographed by the artist. Interspersed throughout the meal-portraits are facts and statistics drawn from Amnesty International, the Death Penalty Information Center, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, among other sources, which together paint a damning picture of the practice of capital punishment in this country.
