First published by Something Else Press in 1966, this Great Bear Pamphlet documents two major performances by Fluxus artist Wolf Vostell. “Berlin” consists of 100 separate actions performed by Wolf Vostell, Vagelis Tsakiridis, and Reinhard Lettau on November 10, 1965 in various locations within Berlin. These actions vary from the ridiculous (“gluing forty-four bright pink lipsticks to a greek typewriter”) to the poignant (“confronting the notice found in berlin apartment houses CHILDREN ARE PROHIBITED FROM PLAYING ON STAIRS AND IN HALLWAYS AS WELL AS FROM LOITERING OUTSIDE THE ENTRANCE with the reality of war ruins and juxtaposed posters, pictures and news photos…”). “Phenomena” lists similar actions that occurred as part of a happening that took place at an automobile graveyard in Berlin in March of 1965.
