In Dark is the Room Where We Sleep, Spanish artist Francesc Torres documents the efforts of a multidisciplinary team attempting to recover memories of the Spanish Civil War in the municipality of Villamayor de los Montes.
Through black and white photographs showing the findings of excavations, excerpts from testimonies collected by anthropologists, fragments of forensic identification reports and color pictures of a ceremony in which the remains of soldiers that were successfully identified were returned to their relatives, Torres explores the darker recesses of his country’s history
This book includes a preface by Torres and essays by anthropologist Francisco Ferrándiz and historian Joanna Bourke. In English and Spanish.
