This book presents three photographic projects of Peter D'Agostino and accompanying critical texts. In Alpha, D'Agostino condensed Godard’s Alphaville into 36 frames in a roll of photographic film, then selected eight images to talk about the self-reflexive nature of film and photography – light and time – and linguistic concerns that parallel the film’s narrative. Trans takes Alain Robbe-Grillet’s Film Trans-Europ-Express as its starting point for meta-structural analysis and Chung : “Still” Another Meaning uses the Chinese government’s reaction to Antonioni’s depiction of China in his Chung Kuo to investigate the issue of film’s depiction of “reality.” Texts follow from Rae Blakeney, Alain Robbe-Grillet, William Luhr and the book concludes with commentary from Andria Chiodo, Kristine Stiles, and Hal Fischer.
