Meridianos, by Canseco and Dorada begins, “We are telescopes that depending [on] the meridian plane in which we find ourselves, we observe our universe in a different way.” - Maria Dorada. In this book, we see the universe through the unique lenses of these two photographers, whether it be in New York City or Madrid.

Canseco explains his work: “My stay in New York during 2012 was marked by the impact of the biggest hurricane that has been noticed in the history of the United States. This selection of photos took place during the days before and after the hurricane arrived at the city and they try to reflect the difference of portraying a “model” urban landscape facing the worst consequence that could have been caused, the absence of electricity.”

Dorada takes a different focus: “During the last few months, I have been across Madrid in search of hostels with a common denominator, the cherishment of “interior landscapes,” still anchored in time. The next 23 snapshots form a series in which we see how vegetation and wood integrate in non-natural spaces recalling aromas, textures and compositions from the 70’s.”

While Canseco and Dorada differ in subject matter, they both reveal unexpected angles and perspectives, and focus on materiality, structure, and architecture. The artists fully capture the essence of a place and its mood, whether humble and lonely or bold and assertive.
