Erica Magrey is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist working with video, performance, music, costume, sculpture, photography, and set design.
“I photographed Kristin from 1993 until about 2004. She was (/is) a family friend akin to a cousin that I’ve known since she was two, and the camera played a significant role in our relationship: it allowed me to reflect on my own identity and sexuality as mirrored through her and created a set of shared bonding experiences. In revisiting my archive of over a thousand images of Kristin, I wanted to re-examine my choice of selects and their presentation method, rather than regurgitating a staid portfolio. I’ve made some different decisions this time, favoring certain types and expressions over others and layering them together.”
