Texts From Lilit conjures the demon Lilit (Lillith), whose story traces back to ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, and Judaic mythology. Reaching from the dark side of the moon, via text messages, Lilit explores the insidious side of empathy, trauma-healing modalities, and astrology as storytelling. Lilit’s texts are tools to facilitate connecting with your inner demons and support integrating shadow selves. The cards include demon drawings and somatic exercises, which correspond to the movement of planets and astrological archetypes.
Lilit The Empathic Demon is an ongoing project by multidisciplinary artist Tamar Ettun, in which you can text “SUMMON” to 833-575-1049 and correspond with Lilit. Since April 2020, Lilit has gained over 600 followers and she continues texting them today. Lilit tells her story and explores themes of emotional wellbeing, mental health, spirituality, and cosmic timing in her messages. Unlike the original texts, the artist book accurately documents the celestial events that corresponded with the time the messages were sent (a treat for students of astrology).
The Texts From Lilit book was created by Tamar Ettun. Meghana Karnik is the book’s editor and contributor of curatorial text. The book was created for Tamar Ettun: How To Trap A Demon (2022) curated by Meghana Karnik and presented at SUNY Purchase’s Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery.
