The Black Book is an edition of 1,000 offset-printed dust jackets, which allows you to create your own book by Barbara Bloom, simply by wrapping this cover around the book of your choice.

Barbara Bloom (b. 1951 in Los Angeles) is a Conceptual artist best known for her installation work and her affiliation with the Pictures Generation, an infamous exhibition staged at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which also included Richard Prince, Louis Lawler, and Barbara Kruger. Bloom’s work is focused on the dialectical relationship between multiple images. Bloom’s work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The and Serpentine Gallery in London, among many others.

    The so-called Pictures Generation originated from Douglas Crimp’s 1977 landmark exhibition Pictures. In the late 1970s Charlesworth and peers such as Laurie Simmons, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Sherrie Levine, Louise Lawler, and Richard Prince began referencing mass media in their work, often appropriating images from newspapers, magazines and film in a critique of representation in a mass media saturated culture.
