Artwork description by Alicia Nauta: This design came from a place of trying to imagine a future—a safe and beautiful place where possibility exists. I found this exercise helpful: Sit in a comfortable chair in a quiet place. Relax, breathing slowly and deeply. Close your eyes and try to watch the visual images that move across your mind’s eye. Imagine you are in a favourite place. Try to see every detail: the floor, the furniture, the pictures on the walls, and each window. If your favourite place is a landscape, imagine the plants, the smells, the feeling of the space, and every significant detail. When this is done properly, it should not only conjure up memories, but emotions.

This tote bag was produced in collaboration with Everybody World. It features a large inner pocket as well as two water bottle pockets. 100% Recycled Cotton, biodegradable and gender neutral basics, responsibly made in Los Angeles.

Bio: Alicia Nauta is a Toronto based artist. She makes screen printed posters, prints, wallpaper, installations, books, printed textiles and other multiples. Her focus is on analog ways of making, using xerox material culled from older publications found in thrift stores and reference libraries to create collaged compositions. Much of her work serves as speculative windows into past, present and future realities. She is interested in multiples, created through various print methods, for their democratic and accessible qualities. Her work has been shown at the Toronto Public Reference Library, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Ferry Terminal Docks, Gallery 44, Art Metropole, Burnaby Public Library, Printed Matter and Koganecho Art Centre. She is currently the artist in residence at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Her giant collaborative book, library project and exhibition, ‘A book from the world tomorrow’ was supposed to open March 14, 2020.
