Musicwords (For Phil Niblock) Jackson Mac Low Posters $100.00
Currently on display at Printed Matter is an assorted selection of posters from the Fluxus-infused and Fluxus-refused NY avant garde music scene.
Jackson Mac Low
From poet, composer and performance artist Jackson Mac Low, a series of performance scores in which a “vocabulary” is built from the letters in a person’s name (including here Phil Niblock, Peter Moore & Vera Regina Lachmann). The jumbled names (with some notated to a musical staff) are meant to be performed by a reader, guided by a set of rules.
Marian Zazeela & La Monte Young
Various posters announcing the performances and exhibitions by Marian Zazeela and La Monte Young hosted by the Dia Art Foundation, including the Pandit Pran Nath Concert of Morning Ragas (1978), Light (1978) and The Theatre of Eternal Music Big Band Concert Series at Dream House (1990).
Charlotte Moorman & Jim McWilliams
These 19 posters announced The Annual Avant Garde Festival of New York, which ran between 1963-1980, first at the Judson Memorial Church and subsequently throughout New York City. Organized by cellist & performance artist Charlotte Moorman (a one time roommate of Yoko Ono), the posters include the participation of many Fluxus luminaries and other artists who emerged out of its spirit of experimentation. Performers included Dick Higgins, Yoko Ono, Allen Ginsberg, John Cage, Jackson Mac Low, Guerrilla Art Action Group, Geoffrey Hendricks, Carolee Schneeman, Nam June Paik, and many more. With the exception of the earliest black and white posters, these announcements are designed by Fluxus artist Jim McWilliams. The 19 posters are available together as a set.
