Didáctica Autodidactica is somewhat hard for a reader to wrap their mind around. It exists somewhere between a philosophical text and an artist’s notebook. Though it touches on a range of subjects, its central gesture lies in its exploration of self-education, combining visual and thought exercises. The book’s drawings, texts, and photographs explore subjects from anatomy to movement to the use and meaning of color in art. The book also includes studies of cities and artificial (man-made) environments. The book includes several of Araya’s photographic works taken through visors that limit the camera’s field of view, producing works that look at a landscape as through the end of a long hallway.
