A Técnica do Pincel—translated directly as The Brush Technique—is a stitch-bound, softcover risograph-printed book published by Andante Press in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The book uses images found in graphic arts books, magazines, and art supply advertisements to meditate on the form of the brushstroke and the ways it has been employed by many artists across time, place, medium, and genre. Most pages contain a main image in black ink, accented with splashes of risograph color, mimicking the effect of a brushstroke. Among the artists included in A Técnica do Pincel are Roy Lichtenstein, Yves Klein, Shiraga Kazuo, and Sandro Botticelli. Throughout the book, the reader is asked to ruminate on a style of mark-making so common that it may go unconsidered.
