Queerer, volume two of The Gods Sure Are Queer, was produced in response to a public call for submissions to expand the project beyond “the western, white, cisgendered male focus of volume one. We asked artists to look back and examine the preservation (and erasures) of queer representation through artifact and mythology, and to look forward to how these histories might manifest visually and conceptually in contemporary queer experience. Sixteen queer artists mined representations of homosexual, transgender and non-binary content from world religions and spiritual practices, exploring iconography from Aztec, Norse, Afro-Cuban, and Chinese mythology, as well as stories of Hindu gods, Sufi saints, Islamic Jinn, biblical figures and pagan gods, through a queer lens.- Improper Printing
